  • Be specific. Open ended questions make it difficult to normalise the data, so keep it to yes/no or multiple choice.
  • Test It. Always test it internally or with friendly clients or contacts. Remove the mistakes in house before you send it to your customers.
  • Entice & Remind. Do they have a good reason to start – never mind finish it or are you asking for a favour? Set a deadline and remind them. Don’t send on a weekend!

If you follow the above, you’ll get a better result especially if you can record the results against a customer record and actually use the information you have gathered.
